Two new chips for viable were introduced by Qualcomm, namely Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and W5+ Gen 1. At the same time, Qualcomm announces that two manufacturers of connected watches and bracelets will soon release models equipped with its new SoCs.

It is therefore Mobvoi and Oppo that have models in the boxes that are about to be released. Also, 25 designs are in development with no one knowing more about the manufacturers working on them.

The Oppo Watch 3 is coming next month

Announcing these new chips, Franco Li, Oppo’s Vice President and President of IoT Business, said: ” The Oppo Watch 3 series will be launched in August. As the first smart watch with Snapdragon W5 wearable platform, it will delight our users with better performance “.

Engraved in 4nm, this new generation aims to reduce consumption while improving performance to ensure better autonomy. The founder promises up to 50% more autonomy with twice the performance. We saw more on the W5 Gen 1 and W5+ Gen 1 viable adopt Wear OS 3, like the Watch 3. Oppo hasn’t specified the operating system it will use for its next connected watch.

What we know about the Oppo Watch 3

For its part, the Chinese manufacturer Mobvoi – at the origin of Ticwatch – has already announced that it will launch the first Wear OS watch with the Snapdragon W5+ chip in the fall. Oppo’s watch is set to come before Mobvoi’s model, so we can assume that the Oppo Watch 3 will feature RTOS rather than Wear OS. It must be said that the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 is Qualcomm’s first chip that is also compatible with Wear OS watchessmart watcheson RTOS or on Android. As a reminder, RTOS is an open source operating system that offers better autonomy management, but without the possibility of installing third-party applications. It already equips several watches on the market like the OnePlus Watch, the Xiaomi Watch S1, the Zepp Z or the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro. The Oppo Watch 2 also already used RTOS, unlike the first version that launched on Wear OS.

Among the rumors surrounding the Oppo Watch 3, we can say that there would be three different models. This generation of connected watches would have a larger screen-to-body ratio while retaining its square design with rounded corners found on the Oppo Watch 2.

As for the colors on offer, we could claim black, silver, dark gray and light gold. As Qualcomm promises, autonomy would be improved. However, we don’t know the retail price or if the Watch 3 will be released in France.

Note that Oppo would also prepare its Band 2, a connected bracelet that would come with SpO2 measurement and an NFC chip.
