What is an IP address?
The Internet Protocol (IP) address is the address of your network hardware. This connects your computer to other devices on your network and around the world. The IP address consists of numbers or characters.
However, all devices connected to an internet connection have a unique IP address, which means billions of IP addresses are needed. The new IPv6 IP upgrade meets these criteria. Find IP address on Windows 10
There are basically two versions of IP: IPv4 and IPv6. IPv4 is an old version with over 4 billion IP addresses. Still, the latest version of IPv6 can provide up to billions of IP addresses to meet the needs of all internet users and devices.
Meanwhile, the IPv4 version is used to configure numerically rated IP addresses (numbers) that may conflict with other IP addresses. That’s why IPv6 introduced the hexadecimal approach to provide unique IP addresses to trillions of users around the world.

Types of IP Addresses

1. Private IP address
A private IP address is the address of your device connected to the home or work network. If you have several different devices connected to an ISP (Internet Service Provider), all of your devices will have a unique private IP address. This IP address cannot be accessed by devices outside of your home or work network. Private IP addresses are nothing special since there are a limited number of devices on your network.
2. Public IP address
Your public IP address is the primary IP address that your home or work network is connected to. This IP address connects you to the world and is unique to all users.
3. Static and dynamic IP addresses
Private and public IP addresses can be static or dynamic. IP addresses that you manually configure and correct on your device’s network are called static IP addresses. Static IP addresses cannot be changed automatically.
Dynamic IP automatically configures and assigns an IP address to your network when you set up a router on the Internet. This distribution of IP addresses is managed by the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). DHCP can be your internet router that assigns an IP address to your home or business network.
